When my oldest son started potty training, he was very happy to be out of diapers and excited to be using the toilet like a “big boy!” During his potty-training phase, my wife and I had a rule that before getting into the car to go anywhere, he had to go to the potty. On more than a few occasions, while complying with this rule, he would come out of the bathroom crying because his clothes and the floor in front of the toilet were wet, and he did not know why. This really had a negative effect on his confidence and made his potty-training journey a bit stressful. Additionally, this was frustrating for both my wife and I because we had to change his clothes and clean up the mess, which took time and often made us late to wherever we were going.
In order to strengthen my son’s potty-training confidence, I needed to understand why this was happening. I soon discovered that he was peeing through the gap between the seat and bowl and became determined to find a way to block the toilet seat gap. So, after developing the initial P-flector® prototype and installing it on all our toilets, my son’s confidence exploded. “Look dad/mom…all dry!” he often said with a big smile. My wife and I were very happy with his confidence spike and loved that we no longer had a mess to clean up.
